Range Rover Evoque Convertible

Range Rover Evoque Convertible

The Approach

Extensive CAE analysis was carried out to create a data-led design solution for the convertible Evoque, allowing parametric assessment in vehicle engineering to optimize performance. A comprehensive kinematics and feasibility study reviewed the motion of each mechanical point of the folding roof, identifying areas for improvement. This study enabled the team to design, develop and produce a powered roof system seamlessly transforming the vehicle into a convertible model.

The new design for the powered roof system necessitated a re-designed functional tailgate and realignment of the rear seatbelts, with hand-skived leather enfolding the rear seats to complete the design. The engineering team accomplished every aspect of the project working remotely within JLR’s processes and systems.

The DRVN Advanced Engineering team ensured the ADV was delivered within a 12-week period, ready for product validation testing. The Range Rover Evoque convertible prototype was utilised as the headline reveal for JLR at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show.

Project Objective

DRVN Advanced Engineering was tasked with the conversion of a Range Rover Evoque SUV to a production-ready convertible SUV. DAE were able to design and develop the prototype within a matter of weeks in advance of Geneva Motorshow, before implementing a full design and development programme for the final vehicle. Additionally, DAE were commissioned by JLR to design, develop, and manufacture an Attribute Development Vehicle with the objective of improving efficiency and driving quality.
