Project Objective
DRVN AE, in collaboration with Bentley Motor Company, developed cutting-edge bespoke technology to deliver an innovative rotating display featured within the Bentley GT model.
The innovation was conceptualised in-house, with DRVN AE’s engineering lead technicians focused on combining craftsmanship and cutting-edge technology at the press of a button.
DRVN AE were tasked with the refinement and engineering of the Bentley Rotating Display (BRD). Significant time was spent providing an end-to-end solution that ensured the highest quality standard. The feature is constructed from 153 individual components and 40 moving components to form a three-sided rotating display with less than 0.5 mm clearance on each side.
Through testing and prototyping, DRVN AE were able to maintain tolerances, allowing the drive system to become self-teaching. The controlling ECU not only learns the mechanism’s physical extents in all deployment positions, but also uses intelligent speed control to vary the speed of the motors in response to variances in mechanical friction and battery voltage.
DRVN AE’s design engineering team created a unique centrepiece using an HMI screen changer, giving customers the ability to choose between the main 12.3-inch infotainment touchscreen, a set of three analogue gauges (outside air temperature, a compass and a chronometer), and a book-matched piece of veneer. All are controlled through a touchscreen interface packaged inside a portable case.
